UPDATE – We now know that Jon Jones was indeed named as the prime suspect in a hit and run, although previous reports involving cocaine turned out to be false. Jones, who went missing for around 24 hours subsequently turned himself in to, and has been bailed by, ABQ PD. His mugshot is below

Name:  JONES, JONATHAN

Booking Number:  130757125
Age:  27
Sex:  MALE
Race:  BLACK
Release Date:  04/27/2015

At this stage there is still no word from the UFC and it is reported that Jones passed an out of competition drug test. However, this is some of the worst publicity the sport has encountered and it may only be a matter of time before their hand is forced. In my mind a suspension and being stripped of the title seems appropriate.

There are a number of unconfirmed reports circulating via Twitter that UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, Jon ‘Bones’ Jones has been dramatically pulled from the Memorial Day card in Las Vegas.

Jones, appears to be an official suspect in a hit and run, rumours have now calmed down over the presence of cocaine at the scene, although that doesn’t mean they were not involved.

The UFC released a statement this evening.

We are aware that the Albuquerque Police Department is interested in speaking to Jon Jones regarding his possible involvement in a motor vehicle accident,” the statement read. “We are in the process of gathering facts and will reserve further comment until more information is available.

Needless to say, if correct then jail time is highly likely and being stripped of the title he holds so dear will surely follow. The question is, if this does happen does ‘Rumble’ stay on the card? Who does he face? And will it be for an Interim or a vacated version of the belt. Either way, with both Vitor Belfort and Chris Weidman susceptible to injury this card may fall apart despite the legitimate intentions when booking, but the potential loss to the UFC of its biggest PPV draw will have far-reaching consequences for the title picture.
